On 27-30 August, a four-day open data intensive course “Data Journalism” took place in Lviv. The event brought together professors from the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and the National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic”, who will be able to implement the new programme “Data Journalism” more effectively this academic year.
This intensive course allowed the teachers to deepen their knowledge of open data, receive practical recommendations on teaching the “Data Journalism” course from leading experts, and expand their network of professional contacts. In addition, the participants discussed opportunities for joint projects aimed at promoting open data in Ukraine.
Why is this important?
The modular course “Data Journalism” is an important step in implementing an open data policy in Ukraine. This programme will help universities train a new generation of professionals capable of working with large amounts of data, analysing it and creating accessible information products.
We would like to remind you that this year the “Data Journalism” course is being implemented in the programmes of the following universities:
- Ivan Franko National University of Lviv;
- National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic”;
- Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University;

The open data intensive course “Data Journalism” was initiated by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and supported by the Digital Transformation Support Project, funded by USAID and UK Dev. The implementing partner is the BRDO.
