DOT-Chain Defence: pilot results and scale-up plans

Today, a briefing was held on the results of DOT-Chain Defence, a digital weapons marketplace for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During the event, the results of the pilot project were presented and further steps for the development of the system were outlined.

What is DOT-Chain Defence?

It is a weapons marketplace that replaces the slow and cumbersome ‘classic bureaucratic approach’ with a transparent and flexible mechanism for rapid interaction between the state, the military, and manufacturers. With just a few clicks, the military can order the necessary weapons, see delivery times, and receive them without lengthy paperwork.

Results of the DOT-Chain Defence pilot:

  • The first order in the system was placed on 31 July.
  • During this time, 38,683 unmanned weapons have been delivered.
  • Currently, 184 models of FPV drones, bombers, and aircraft-type drones from 38 manufacturers are available.
  • The average delivery time is 10 days, with the fastest being 5 days.

A new feature is currently in development: the ‘Drone Builder.’ It will allow the military to customise drones for specific tasks and manufacturers to quickly adapt production to the actual demand on the front lines.

What’s next?

Over the next six months, the system will be scaled up to cover 70% of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Why is this important?

DOT-Chain Defence is changing the logic of defence procurement. It provides the military with predictable and targeted supplies, manufacturers with the ability to plan their capacities, and the state with transparent, data-driven control over the process.

What does BRDO have to do with this?

BRDO is a development partner of DOT-Chain Defence and provides expert support for the system. We initiated changes to standard documents to protect DOT from unfounded claims, provided military units with explanations on how to use the system in light of legislative changes, and are helping to develop an approach focused on the real needs of the military and market opportunities.

DOT-Chain Defence is developed by DOT and the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine in cooperation with the Better Regulation Delivery Office (BRDO), with support from the German Federal Ministry of Defence.
